IS JIMMIE JOHNSON A THREAT?

As motorsports fans prepare themselves for the Memorial Day race weekend with one of those races being the 106th running of the Indianapolis 500. One of the hot takes going into the race is about 7 time NASCAR Cup Series champion, Jimmie Johnson. Fans and followers believe that Johnson could be a major contender for the prestigious Borg-Warner Trophy in his first ever attempt in the 500 mile race. Chip Ganassi Racing has been fast the entire month of May, having all 5 of the teams entries making the Fast 12 in qualifying.
Oval History
Although Johnson has history with oval racing, that being 82 wins on them just from his NASCAR Cup Series career. However, 4 of those wins came at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. It is easy to say Johnson has experience on his side going into the biggest race of the year for the series when he has stats like this but, Johnson has only one start at an oval in IndyCar. That one start was at the Texas Motor Speedway just earlier this year, a track that Johnson has more than enough experience at as he's won at there 7 times in the Cup Series. His race at Texas was impressive to anyone, starting 18th and working his way through the field during the race to finish 6th. Could this have been Johnson proving that he can have a massive opportunity at a win in IndyCar being his best finish to date.
Can He Win?
Johnson starts 12th after having a 4 lap average of 231.264 MPH for today's Indy 500. He is the lowest starter from the Chip Ganassi Racing camp, but don't let that make you think he doesn't have a chance at the win. Today, can Johnson prove the doubters of his IndyCar move wrong? The 46 year-old will test himself today as he tries to etch himself into history as a winner of the Indianapolis 500.
